Enlarged lymph nodes are not lipomas

Discuss about single or few lipomas here. Single lipomas are very common and are different from conditions like Familial Multiple Lipomatosis or Dercum's Desease. Lipomas are commonly capsulated.

Enlarged lymph nodes are not lipomas

Post by matt » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:43 pm

The enlarged lymph nodes are sometimes mistakenly thought to be lipomas. But they are very different. Lymph nodes are a part of body's immune system and can sometimes swollen in case of an infection. Lymph nodes are commonly located in certain areas of the body like in the neck, under the chin, in the armpits and in the groin. Lipomas instead are fatty tumors which can be located almost everywhere in body but are most commonly seen in the trunk area, thighs and arms. More about lipomas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipoma

It is usually the first indication of the presence of an infection. Fever and discharge will follow if the infection persists.
