Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hi Hoops22, i really relate to your story. I'm 34 and i have maybe like 50-60 lipomas. At least you have a wife. For me, i never dated women because of these lipomas and also i have others rare diseases like that which make me feel unconfortable with myself.
I tries to encourage myself that in my next life (for me reincarnation is a no brainer) that i grew out of this experience.
Try to stay positive Hoops22 maybe a cure will appears in 2015. At least your not alone.

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hi all
I'm reporting back as promised on the AIM's Barleygreen method. It's taking double/tripple the time to go smaller now but the shrinking has not stopped as I, at some stage, thought. Seems when you begin drinking the Barley it goes fast the first month and then slows down. But I rather take a very slow shrinking than none at all.
Reporting back in another 2 months.
Good luck & chins up!!

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hi There,
Im new to this forum i live in South Africa. I also have multiple lipomas on my thighs and my forearms. My most recent one is just to the right of my right shoulder blade.
I hate these things, i cant wear dresses or short sleeves because i am so embarrassed by these awful lumps. The only remedy ive tried is the apple cider vinegar and i saw no results, but maybe because i wasnt taken it as often as i should of.l
So my next option is to try the supplements and cut all fatty foods off my diet.
I really hope this will work and i hope to hear from anyone that has other remedies or even success stories to at least give us a little hope.
Take care all

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Lumpy Bev,
I also have multiple lipomas peppered on my arms and thighs. I know how self-conscious you can feel, so you're not alone. I know it must be particularly difficult as a woman. I know as a man I can wear shorts that pretty much go down to my knees and am able to wear suits and/or long-sleeved dress shirts to formal events.
I have a little daughter and I pray all the time that she doesn't develop this condition.
I know it's a battle but try to not to let them control you or define who you are and how you view yourself...

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
I've had 4 of these things removed from my forearms. I can't stand them. I have maybe 20 more on my whole body, and about 12 of them are on my thighs. The others are on my back and a few small ones(pea size) left on my forearm. My insurance covers all but $150 to have one of them removed. I'm going to remove 2 or 3 a year until I get rid of them. There are several I can live with, but the rest have to go. I feel like this will just be a battle I will fight the rest of my life. There is nothing you can do to prevent your body from deciding to make one these things, its genetic.

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
I feel for you, but just one correction: we don't know if it's genetic. It's still an assumption which hasn't been profoundly proved.
Hi I'm Matt - the creator and owner of this site. I have dozens of small nasty lipomas all over. I've tried many treatments including surgery and Lipostabil injections. See my lipoma prevention supplement recommendations and please consider donating a small amount via PayPal (click the Donate button) to keep this site up and running. Thx!
Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
I am 35 years old and live in the US I started to notice the lypoma's in my late teens. An estimated guess is somewhere between 90-100 (can't count the ones on my back). A good majority of them ache and burn constantly. I have a group almost like grapes on a vine in the upper thigh that give me a feeling of restless leg syndrome almost constatly. I convinced the Derm Dr to remove one a couple of weeks ago on my arm after getting the impression from him that he did not believe me that it hurt. To his suprise it was an angio lipoma which would explain the size and pain. It was well supplied with vessels to grow. He has now referred me to an Ortho Dr to have another one removed that affects my job as it is in the elbow joint and I type all day at work. Has anyone had success with controlling the ache, burning, and fatigue that this causes? Advil/ Tylenol does nothing. This can not possibly be what I have to live with for the rest of my life.

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hi, everyone,
I first noticed lipomas when started working out in a gym while taking extra nutrition from Herbalife. Not sure if the product was connected to them, but I certainly blamed it since never before I experienced anything like that.
I have a few in my thighs and a few under skin of my back, I never counted them but they do bother me. My physician also tells me there is no reason to be worried about.
I noticed that if I exercise really hard, they do become smaller, but not by much. They also pop-up more since I become skinnier when exercising a lot.
For myself, I decided I am going to try removing them one by one, once any of them start bothering me enough. What I think is the most depressing about this condition is that, no one can explain where they come from and how to prevent them from reoccurring. I am going to run a research next month to see whether I can find anything in Chinese medicine to treat them. There is always something.

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hey guys,
Well I've just joined the FML wagon at the age of 25 (I've self diagnosed myself with my limited medical student knowledge).
I noticed my first lipoma back when I was probably 16-18 on my back, at that stage I had no idea what they were and ignored it. Over the years I've noticed the development of well-encapsulated mobile nodules (one on my forearm and one on my lateral chest wall) and didn't give it much thought either, given their static nature and lack of malignant properties.
However, the other day I had an 'itch' of sorts in my abdomen so I scratched it. I noticed another one of these nodules which was tender on palpation so that piqued my curiosity and I dug around further and found another 10-15 of these pea sized nodules dispersed around my forearms, abdomen, knee, chest and back (with a several larger ones on my back, hidden near the spinous process).
Just a bit of background for anyone that's interested:
- None of the larger ones hurt on palpation whereas the smaller ones do hurt
- My parents both have lipomas (dad with 3-4 and mum with a single one)
- Between the ages of 16-18 --> 24 I kept myself in pretty good shape, but over the past year I've sort of let my own weight fluctuate back up to my 17 year old levels (85kg), I'm not sure of the relevance or the added value of the anecdotal evidence
- Underlying conditions: GORD, Type 2 hyper sensitivity, preauricular sinus
Aetiology of Lipomas (in my opinion give the lack of any concrete material):
Matt's done a great job with references to the literature (which is sparse and in between, probably because it's such a rare condition) but though there is probably some form of genetic mutation that predisposes individuals to FML, like most conditions there are probably environmental factors which aggravate and predispose to the formation of lipomas. What these conditions are, one can only guess due to the lack of case studies out there. However, given that it's most likely some sort of abnormality in fat storage, having an abbundance of free fatty acids probably does not help in preventing their formation. Once they have formed and they are enclosed in a fibrous sheath lipolysis cannot readily occur even in a background of systemic lipolysis, possibly due to the fact that enzymes which facilitate fat breakdown are seperated by the fibrous layer. So perhaps the best treatment is preventing lipogenesis in the first place. However most of the experts do agree that you can't prevent FML through diet, but personally I would think you could decrease their number and size through adequate diet and exercise.
Again this is just things I've made up from my own experience, I personally don't believe that all FML is caused by the same disease process, I had a look at the survey page and the background of many of us differs quite a bit. There may be some forms of FML that are brought on solely by genetic mutation whereas others may be caused by genetic mutation + some environmental changes (this may also explain why some have it so much worse than others).
Once again keep in mind, this is all the BS opinion of some random guy that needed to vent out his ideas, take it as you will. However, if you did read up to here thanks for reading brother =).
Also thanks to whoever made this page, really appreciate there being a place where I can vent my ideas and frustrations about having this nasty thing (though I do count my blessings for not having some other chronic disease which can be much nastier).

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
First time poster as my condition has started to get to the point where it is starting to affect me.
Like many other people, I first noticed mine at around 17/18 and I am now about to turn 30. I played a high level of sport and did a lot of work in the gym. I now probably have around 70 around my body and although they are not immediately noticeable, I can notice them and I seem to be getting more and more in the last year. I have had about 12 cut out over the years and recently I had back surgery on the NHS and it was a horrible experience.....
It is very frustrating I know, but I have to say that it hasn't affected my life in anyway and I think that everyone should be thankful that we aren't suffering from a chronic or life limiting illness like a lot of people do!
Will definitely be an active member on this as I do want to try and see if I can limit/control them.

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Hi everyone.. I would say I'm new to this discussion but I've been reading these over and over for a while now. As you can guess I suffer from lipomas- multiple in my case! I've not counted them but I'd say I'm well over the 50 mark
I have most of them in my thighs and lower abdomen and lower back, a few in my arms too. Just recently I've discovered 4-5 new ones in my arms which is really getting me down(not that I wasn't down in the first place). I noticed my first lipoma aged around 15 in my abdomen, wasn't really a problem so that was that. Fast forward 4-5 years I notice a couple more in my abdomen and thighs, again not really a problem. From the age of around 21, I started going out a lot drinking and eating a lot of crap basically and since then they have been appearing like flys around s**t!! At around the same time I was in the gym doing a lot of weight training and my protein intake would have been really high too, not sure if this may have been a factor. I recently found out my grandad on my mums side has a couple of them but my mum does not. My dad had 1 in his leg, unsure about his mum and dad. My brother doesn't have any at all. Not sure why I'm writing all this, think I just need to get it off my chest to people that understand to be honest. So far from reading and searching through the Internet, water fasting seems to be the best solution to shrink and get rid? But with everyday life and work etc this isn't the easiest thing to do but I'm definitely considering it. In terms of prevention I've gathered that keeping the liver clean and healthy helps with ridding of toxins..i've started to try clean up my diet which isn't easy as I enjoy my food, but started eating a lot of fresh fruit n veg, drinking lemon water in the mornings., I drink a lot of water anyway. Suppose this is all in hope of slowing the process down. Just incase you wanted to know I'm 25 year old male, always been fit and active, 6"2 and currently 13st 7lbs (189lbs I think).

Re: Multiple Lipomas!!
Feel your pain guys. This board is the best thing ever though. So good to know others face the same problem. Credit to Matt, quite frankly I don't know what mental shape I would be in if it wasn't for the the information on this board. At the end of the day, as annoying as these little shits are, it could be far far worse. Letting yourself get down and thinking about it too much is the worst thing to do. You constant search and constantly find more!! I go through phases. Forget about them for months at a time then start thinking about it again. Personally I think we are all guilty of over thinking that they must be so noticeable but they really aren't. If u have some in obvious places get them out. Simple. A natural non invasive cure really would be the golden ticket though.
