Multiple Lipomas!!

Discuss about single or few lipomas here. Single lipomas are very common and are different from conditions like Familial Multiple Lipomatosis or Dercum's Desease. Lipomas are commonly capsulated.

Multiple Lipomas!!

Post by squiggy » Wed Jul 06, 2011 3:46 am

To whom it may concern.

I am a 26 year old guy. I work out, exercise, and probably lift about 4-5 days a week. I'm in decent shape, many would agree. Here's the problem.. I have Lipomas all over my body! They are about the size ranging from peanut to small grape. I have had one removed from each forearm. I have one on each calf! I get the. ( Oh i wouldnt notice it, unless you pointed it out) comment. I have counted about 6-8 on each thigh, upper leg, quad area. I have a small one on each buttock! One kinda behind the knee cap, and another very small one growin on top of my forearm, of which I can move around.. I dont' want these things... i don't want to have to cover up.. i want to wear shorts without being self conscious.. i dont' want to waste timing finding, and feeling them out all over my body throughout the day. I don't want these things to continue to Grow! Are they going to swamp my entire body? is it going to stop? I also itch in most of the areas.. I'll be sitting, working, or on computer, start itching my leg without thinking, and BAM what do i find?? a lipoma... anywho.. I've tried different remedies, different vitamins, flax seed, fish oil, lemons, castor oil application, massage oil, and try to eat healthy, drink lots of water, and exercise. I don't know what I'm doing, or what's wrong with me to why they keep appearing.

I hope someone finds a cure as I know many suffer worse than myself.

To whom it may concern, good luck, and god bless.

I feel you bud. I know what it's like to constantly discover new ones. And I also work out a lot. I used to be very proud of my physique. I actually used to do personal training part-time for years (through college and to supplement my income as a teacher). I have since stopped doing this. I also avoid certain exercises at the gym, those which make the lipomas more apparent. I still have a pretty decent physique, but I hate taking my shirt off, and I hate wearing short sleeves. It depresses me to think back to the time when I was confident in my appearance, so I try not to do so. It sounds like you're doing everything right, so all I can really say is hang in there. I pray all the time for everyone else fighting this condition. Hopefully some cure will present itself...SOON!

It's not surprising that everyone's first post is one of shock and dismay. It's good to get it out and tell someone. That said there is a time for praying and a time for action. We cannot relie on "others" to find a cure for us. We need to be smart about exploring solutions, investigating claims of success, and documenting real results or failure. This board is as good a place as any.

I'm sitting here with 3 large incisions on my stomach and it hurts really bad. The answer has to be within our body. Removing all the lipomas surgically is not cost effective, makes Doctors richer, and may not perminately remove the lipoma. Collectively we have to work towards a solution. I'm willing to do what I can.

I am a 39 year old female and have five or six lipomas on each forearm and a couple on the upper arms, two or three on my torso...i've given up looking as I don't want to find anymore. I think the scars of surgery may show up more than the lumps themselves, I just hope no one notices them too much. They annoy the hell outa me!

Hi lumpyone!

I feel pretty much like you do, which is why we have this board! We all want to get rid of the fatty lumps so bad and the medical world is totally ignoring us. Frustrating as h...! But I think we are already on a right path here. There are many things going on atm, like Darryl who is proposing a natural treatment for lipomas (could still be a quackery though) and I'm starting to believe lipomas might be micobial origin that are capable of altering our DNA. Of course these are still just hypothises but there are many of us who are working for the treatments and cures.

There are also a number of medical studies on lipomatosis which show that it's possible to be totally cured.

Sooner or later it will happen, so just hang in there lumpyone! ;)

They aren't cancerous but simply fatty tumors (lumps). If you don't bother them, they won't bother you. SO I have suggestion to you go to doctor for check up.

I feel all of your pain. I am 26 and have seen my body get worse and worse over the years. The thing they effect most is my self confidence. I have large ones on my thighs, abdomen and lower back. I have made it a new years resolution to save up my money to get these suckers removed. I believe I am going to get them done surgically and just deal with the scars. I have always wanted to get tattoo's. I think the best way is to cover the ugly scars with beautiful art. Let us all take action and get these pieces of crap out of our bodies. That way we can enjoy working out in the gym or taking our shirts off to go swimming again. Good luck to all of you!!!!!

To humpheadfish, you can use temporarily tattoos to cover up... but I wouldn't do permanent. What if you need to do surgery later? work into the design like a bulging muscle or boobs.

jenny - anyone else in your family have lipoma?

I am a 26 year old male and I have multiple lumps in my forearms and I feel like there's some around my thighs/back of knees areas. I have a large one about the size of an egg on my shoulder blade, and recently have been finding painful bumps in my "love handles" and around my ribs. I am so worried I have cancer and quit smoking almost a year ago I actually have an appointment with my primary today, I'm sure I will just be referred to a specialist or hospital. Does anyone still post on this board or is it dead??

I have about 5 on my left arm, 4 on my right arm, one big one size of 50 cents on my right thigh a few behind my legs and little ones all over my stomach chest area.

Due to my weak insurance it would be out of pocket $1800 to get like 2-3 removed and it will be local surgery so I'm awake, it would hurt like hell, plus the needle shots, and there may be scarring whats the point!!!!!!

HI there I am from the uk and i have around 20 of the little buggers, ranging from the size of a pea to a egg!!!! I have had 4 removed throught the nhs and i must say the scars are not to bad!!! I hate them so much aswell, my grandad who has passed away also had lots of these and in some cases they were very large, we used to call him popeye when we was younger. That is one of the reasons why I want them removed when they are smaller so that they dont make me look like the elephant man when i am older and also leave bigger scars. I hate that there is no cure for them and that the medial teams in our countrys havent done any research into them as they are not deemed life threatening. so I can hear all of your pain!!!!

I am from the UK...and I have read all of your stories...I had 1 recently remove..though there is a scar about an inch, (hopefully fade in time) I think its better to have them removed than not, surprised the surgeon suggested not too get the rest moved!!!... I also read that 1 to 100 people get these annoying lumps and dull pain full too to the touch. So we are not alone. So I write to hopefully let this story to be of some - comfort... And I hope they search for a cure as much as they do for cancer... But on a cheery note least we know we at least are not going to die from it....but if not much research has been done for a cure it makes you think, if it is not treatable!!?... what are not getting told!!??... anyways look on the bright side..... Enjoy life while we can..as in life if its not 1 thing that gets you or another to your maker!!??? what ever religion or not....Old age will.... anyways must dash, away for a cup of tea then to bed with me partner.. I know which way I`d like to go!!??--- if you know what I mean.. :D On the Job and I don't mean 9 to 5, unless it was making one of those movies!!??..hahhaaaaa... So Cheer up and if this has made you smile with a bit of laugh at the end..saying goes laughter's is one of the best medicine's... So don't let them get you down..even the lumps... Have a Nice Day now see ya all laters....byeeeeeeeeeeeeee 8-)

I am 26. Perfect physical condition - soccer, gym, pool. Couple years ago I noticed the first lipoma on my back, size of a small grape. Then in several months 2 more appeared on the back, and I kept finding new ones every 2 -3 months. Now I already lost count of them, I guess I have around 35 now, on back, hand, shoulders, right leg, chest... Sizes are different - 0,3-1,5 cm in diameter.
I went to doctors multiple times: all of them strongly recommend not to remove them as long as they do not bother you because the cause remains anyway and they appear again. One of them even said that he has same problem:) but he seemed not to worry at all:).
The last surgeon I went to proposed to take one for some analyses (gistological) to make sure they are not harmful. I got rid of one but a week later I found a new one on the back... So this was the first one and the last one i removed.
The best explanation I heard on the cause of lipomatosis is that this is inheritable. My Father doesn't have this disease, but my older brother has the same, even worse than me. He is 14 years older though.
Although the cause is on genetic level my personal opinion is that something triggers lipomatosis at age between 23-30. I have 3 guesses : Alcohol, toxins accumulated in body, intensive work-outs and unbalanced nutrition.
Understanding that there is no cure I just try to find some psychological reasons not to worry about lipomas. I believe that the more I worry - the worse it gets. We should try to forget about them and just enjoy life.

What does your older brother do about his lipoma?
If they remain small it's one thing, but if they grow too quick eventually you'll need to remove them (more time to heal and possibly drain needed).

For me I try to get them removed if they are approaching 3cm then have a bunch removed at the same time.

These stories are all to familiar. I am 35 yrs. old and began noticing bumps around 17. I'm in good shape, active job (work at fire dept.), and eat fairly well. At first I developed couple to start on my forearm but now have more than I can count mostly on my torso, thighs, and arms. A far as family, I think my brother may have one but that's it.
I was worried about them, had one removed and analyzed but they came back and said it was not cancerous was nothing to worry about (it did not grow back and scar is difficult to see.) It was very frustrating and have expressed my concerns to my physician several times and he seems not worried about it. Mine range from small pea size to one on my left arm that is approx. 10-12 cm. I have had people ask it I have a muscle that no one else has. I would love to have them all removed, some on my back really hurt if I lay on a hard surface, but cannot imagine what the cost would be. I realize none of this helps but seemed like a good place to vent my frustration about the subject.

might need to look for offshore options if you have many to remove at the same time...

Mine started popping up all over in my forties. My mom had them so I thought that's why I got them too. This month, for no particular reason except that winter is creeping closer, I again started using AIM's Barleygreen Powder. I used it before on and off and it's just all over good for many things. It's a natural product with no side effects. Like a meal on it's own if you tend to skip meals here & there and an overall good immune booster. Been using it a month now and suddenly noticed my lipomas, of all things, literally getting smaller by the day.

It may be nothing, it may be something somebody else can also try. For all we know it may be the answer everybody is desperate for.

Please do let me know if this truly is working for somebody else too...

I will reply again within another month. Hopes & Thumbs up everybody !!!

I got my first lipoma when I was 17 years old. When I was 35, I had over 35 removed. When I was 45 I had another 40 removed. Even with insurance, it is very expensive. The scaring isn't bad and I would rather have a barely noticeable scar than a lump. My surgeon said that the growth of these hideous things would slow down by the time I hit 50. I am now 58 and have at least 80 - 100 of them all over my body once again, from the size of a pea to golf ball size. Most of them have shown up in the past two years. I am absolutely sick of them. They are uncomfortable to me both physically and mentally and have made me very conscientious. I hate wearing short sleeve shirts. When I talk with someone, I always hide my arms behind my back. I have almost stopped being intimate with my wife because of the embarrassment they have brought me. I stay in good shape and work out over an hour a day, thinking that maybe by doing so, it will slow down the growth. Has not helped.. ever. I try not to feel sorry for myself and think of people that have far worse problems than me....but that only works for a little while. If anyone knows of any cures, please post. Thank you!
